Blood, Sweat, Tears, and JOY!
Do you ever have one of those moments when everything you do — the blood, the sweat and the tears — helps someone achieve something great?
As a physical therapist in today’s healthcare system, I was feeling as though all the blood, sweat and tears wasn’t achieving greatness, just ok-ness. I started working with a client who had been discharged from Medicare skilled services and began seeing him privately 2 times a week. We worked on his leg, arm, shoulder and core strength, balance, endurance and overall mobility. It took time and hard work, but he went from falling weekly to not having a fall in several months. (Knock on wood!) His increased fitness has led to a significant improvement in his quality of life. He is even talking about taking trips to the theater and even to Italy, as he did often prior to moving into an assisted living facility. The excitement in his voice and the twinkle in his eyes makes all of the blood, sweat and tears worth it.
This client’s achievement gave him back some freedom he had lost and gave me a heart filled with joy! That’s what life should be about.
PS — I hope he takes me to Italy with him!
